Haarwachstum anregen: Was hilft wirklich?

Stimulate hair growth: What really helps?

Written and personally tested by Eva Jurić, founder of the MYSK Online Beauty Store.

Many people wish for long, strong hair. But as soon as hair seemingly stops growing longer, appears thinner, or falls out more frequently, the search begins: How can I stimulate my hair growth? Which shampoo helps? Do I need a scalp serum? And do hair really grow faster with rosemary oil or regular trims?

The honest answer is: the natural growth rate of your hair cannot be arbitrarily accelerated. However, you can create good conditions for healthy hair growth, specifically care for your scalp, and reduce hair breakage. This can ultimately lead to your hair appearing stronger, fuller, and longer in the long run.

In short: What promotes hair growth?

  • Head hair grows on average about one centimeter per month.

  • The natural growth rate is influenced by genes, age, and the individual hair cycle, among other factors.

  • A well-cared-for, balanced scalp provides a good foundation for healthy hair growth.

  • Shampoo, scalp serum, and massages can nourish the scalp, but they can't work miracles overnight.

  • Conditioner and hair masks help reduce hair breakage, allowing hair to maintain its length better.

  • In case of sudden severe hair loss, bald spots, or prolonged hair loss, the cause should be clarified by a doctor.

Can hair growth really be accelerated?

Hair does not grow at the same rate for everyone each month. On average, a head hair grows approximately one centimeter per month. About 90 percent of head hairs are usually in the active growth phase.

How long this growth phase lasts is individual. It determines, among other things, how long your hair can fundamentally grow. That's why some people get long hair very quickly, while for others it takes significantly longer.

Cosmetic care cannot simply double your genetically determined growth rate. However, it can help to:

  • regularly cleanse and nourish the scalp,

  • reduce breakage in the lengths,

  • make dry and weak hair more supple,

  • avoid unnecessary mechanical stress,

  • make the hair appear stronger and fuller overall.

Often, the problem is not just that hair grows slowly. It may be breaking off at the ends, thus failing to reach the desired length.

Why does my hair seemingly not grow?

You see new hair at the roots, but your lengths aren't getting longer? Then hair breakage might be playing an important role.

Especially dry, lightened, or frequently heat-styled hair can break at the tips. Aggressive brushing, tight hairstyles, friction on pillows, and rough towel-drying also put stress on the hair fibers.

While hair continues to grow from the scalp, it simultaneously loses length at the tips. This creates the feeling that the hair isn't growing at all.

Therefore, pay attention not only to your hair roots but also to the condition of your lengths:

  • Are the ends very dry?

  • Are many short hairs breaking off?

  • Does your hair tangle easily?

  • Do the lengths feel rough and brittle?

  • Is there a lot of tension when brushing?

A good hair growth routine should therefore always combine scalp care and protection against hair breakage.

6 tips to support healthy hair growth

1. Start your routine with the scalp.

Healthy hair originates at the hair root. Nevertheless, we often only focus on shampoo, conditioner, and shiny lengths when it comes to hair care.

To be honest, I barely used to care for my scalp. I thought a good shampoo would be enough. It wasn't until I noticed significantly more hair falling out when washing and brushing for an extended period that I consciously started to include my scalp in my routine.

Today, I regularly use a scalp serum and gently massage it in with my fingertips. It's important not to scratch aggressively or rub harshly. The massage should be pleasant and not irritate the scalp.

I use the Nuggela & Sulé Anti-Hair-Loss-Serum Forte for this. It is applied directly to the scalp and left on for at least six hours or overnight.

2. Cleanse the scalp thoroughly, yet gently.

Sebum, sweat, styling products, and dry shampoo can build up on the scalp. Regular and thorough cleansing is therefore part of a good scalp routine.

I use the Nuggela & Sulé Nº1 Premium Shampoo and shampoo my hair twice.

The first wash primarily removes sebum and residue. During the second wash, the shampoo can be distributed more evenly over the cleansed scalp.

I concentrate on the scalp and massage it gently. The hair lengths do not need to be vigorously rubbed – they will be cleaned automatically when rinsing.

Important: More frequent washing does not automatically lead to more hair loss. When washing, primarily hairs that are already at the end of their natural cycle detach.

3. Reduce hair breakage in the lengths.

A scalp serum alone is not enough if the hair is also breaking in the lengths.

After shampooing, I therefore use a conditioner for supple hair lengths. I apply it only to the lengths and ends and let it sit for a few minutes.

Well-conditioned hair is easier to detangle. This reduces tension during brushing and minimizes the risk of mechanical hair breakage.

4. Use an intensive hair mask regularly.

Once a week, I supplement my routine with the Nuggela & Sulé Tucuma Hair Mask.

The mask is also applied only to the lengths and ends. I leave it on for about ten to 15 minutes. Afterwards, my hair feels softer, smoother, and more nourished.

A hair mask doesn't directly make hair grow faster from the root. However, it can protect the lengths and help reduce hair breakage. This is exactly what's important if you want to achieve longer hair.

5. Handle wet hair carefully.

Wet hair is particularly delicate. Therefore, avoid harsh rubbing with a regular towel and aggressive brushing immediately after washing.

It is better to:

  • gently squeeze water out of your hair,

  • use a soft towel or a microfiber towel,

  • first detangle your hair with your fingers,

  • then gently brush from the ends upwards,

  • reduce intense heat as much as possible.

Tight braids and hairstyles that constantly pull in the same spot can also unnecessarily stress the hair.

6. Pay attention to possible internal causes.

Hair growth does not only depend on external care. Illnesses, hormonal changes, medication, stress or a nutrient deficiency can also affect the hair cycle.

Therefore, nutritional supplements with biotin, zinc or iron should not simply be taken on suspicion. If a deficiency is suspected, a medical clarification is advisable.

Especially in cases of sudden severe hair loss, a visibly widening parting, bald spots, itching or inflammation on the scalp, a doctor should investigate the cause.

My personal hair growth routine

My routine is intentionally simple. I don't want to use ten products, but rather perform a few steps regularly:

  1. Apply the scalp serum at least six hours before washing.

  2. Gently wash the scalp twice with the Nº 1 Premium Shampoo.

  3. Leave the conditioner on the lengths for about five minutes.

  4. Once a week, use the Tucuma Hair Mask for ten to 15 minutes.

  5. Gently dry the hair and detangle it without harsh pulling.

I cannot promise that everyone will notice the same results. For me, the conscious combination of scalp care and protection of the hair lengths has made a big difference. My hair feels more nourished, stronger, and less dry.

Which hair growth myths are not true?

Does frequent trimming make hair grow faster?

No. Hair grows from the root, not the ends. Therefore, regular trimming does not change the natural growth rate.

However, removing split ends can prevent damaged ends from splitting further. This makes the hair appear healthier and helps it maintain its length better.

Does cold water make hair grow faster?

Cold water does not accelerate growth at the hair root. However, it can feel pleasant on the scalp and make the hair surface appear smoother after washing.

Is there a shampoo that makes hair grow faster instantly?

A shampoo only stays on the scalp for a short time and cannot work instant miracles. A good shampoo cleanses the scalp and complements a regular routine.

The crucial factor is not a single wash, but the long-term combination of scalp care, gentle cleansing, and protection of the hair lengths.

FAQ: Frequently asked questions about hair growth

How can I make my hair grow faster?

The genetically determined growth rate cannot be arbitrarily increased. However, you can regularly care for your scalp, prevent hair breakage, ensure a balanced diet, and minimize heat styling and harsh pulling on your hair.

How fast does hair grow per month?

Head hair grows on average about one centimeter per month. However, the exact speed differs from person to person.

What promotes hair growth in women?

A well-cared-for scalp, a balanced diet, gentle hair care, and as little hair breakage as possible support good conditions for healthy hair growth. In cases of severe or prolonged hair loss, hormonal, health-related, and nutritional causes should be clarified by a doctor.

Which shampoo is good for hair growth?

A suitable shampoo should thoroughly cleanse the scalp without unnecessarily irritating it. For weak or brittle hair, a shampoo specifically developed for scalp care and stronger-looking hair can be beneficial. However, a shampoo alone cannot treat medically-induced hair loss.

Does a scalp massage help with hair growth?

A gentle scalp massage can complement the care routine and helps to distribute a scalp serum evenly. It should be performed regularly, but without harsh rubbing or scratching. It does not guarantee faster hair growth.

Which vitamins are important for hair growth?

For a normal hair cycle, the body needs various nutrients. These include proteins, iron, and zinc. However, nutritional supplements are primarily helpful if there is actually a deficiency. Taking them on suspicion is not automatically beneficial.

How long does it take for a hair growth routine to work?

Hair care can relatively quickly improve the smoothness and combability of the lengths. Changes in growth or hair density take significantly more time, as hair grows slowly. A routine should therefore be performed regularly over several months and realistically assessed.

When should I see a doctor about hair loss?

Medical clarification is advisable if hair loss starts suddenly, remains significantly stronger for several weeks, bald spots develop, or other symptoms such as itching, pain, inflammation, or severe fatigue occur.

Conclusion: Healthy hair growth takes time.

Unfortunately, there is no trick that will make your hair several centimeters longer in just a few weeks. Healthy hair growth is a slow process.

However, you can support your hair in a meaningful way: regularly care for your scalp, cleanse it thoroughly and gently, protect your lengths from hair breakage, and give your routine enough time.

For me personally, the most important change was no longer thinking only about shampoo and beautiful ends. For me, a good hair growth routine now starts with the scalp – and ends with lengths that remain as healthy as possible and don't constantly break.
